13-year-old John Koobatian saved an elderly dog from drowning at Chatfield Hollow State Park in Killingworth, Connecticut. The dog, a 15-year-old black lab named Casey, went for a swim in the pond but became disoriented and fatigued. She was unable to swim back to shore and started to drown. John, who was watching with his family and friends, saw that Casey was in trouble and immediately swam out to rescue her. He was a strong swimmer and had experience sailing, so he was able to reach Casey and bring her back to shore safely.
Casey was treated at Killingworth Veterinary Hospital and released in good condition. Her owner, who was in his mid-70s, was clearly distraught and would not have been able to save Casey on his own.
John’s mother, Nadine Koobatian, said that she was very proud of her son for his quick thinking and bravery. She also said that John had been spending most of the summer swimming and sailing, so he was well-prepared for the rescue. This is a heartwarming story of a young boy who saved a dog’s life. It is also a reminder of the importance of being prepared for emergencies. If you are going to be near water, it is important to know how to swim and to have someone with you who can help if you need it.
