The legendary gymnast Mary Lou Retton, who is best known for her outstanding performance at the 1984 Summer Olympics, recently went through a trying health situation. In the intensive care unit (ICU), this courageous athlete who won the gold medal and won our hearts with her faultless routines is currently battling for her life.
McKenna Kelley, the daughter of Retton, posted the tragic information on social media. She disclosed that her mother is suffering from a rare type of pneumonia that has had a negative impact on her capacity to breathe on her own.
Over the past week, a group of medical experts have been providing committed care to our cherished gymnastics legend.
Kelley withheld some details of her mother’s condition out of consideration for Retton’s privacy. She did, however, mention that Retton is currently uninsured and that the medical costs are mounting quickly.
Kelley has started a fund and humbly appealed to anyone who can help raise money for the hospital bills in an effort to lessen the financial burden. She kindly requests two small acts of kindness: prayers and financial support for these costs.
Retton stopped competing in gymnastics in 1986, but she has kept people interested by making frequent appearances on TV shows like Glee, Baywatch, and even as a contestant on Dancing With the Stars. She is a true inspiration and has been rightfully inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame, which speaks volumes about the amazing impact she has had.
Currently, it’s unclear how long Retton was in the hospital for. Let’s not forget that Mary Lou Retton is a proud mother of four daughters in addition to being a superb athlete. As soon as there are any modifications to her condition, we’ll let you know.
