Another blow to Wichita’s local restaurant scene has been confirmed to me by one of the managers this morning. Doma, who opened two years ago at 7703 E. Douglas, has closed.Pictures of an email announcing the closure were going around were spread around social media on Thursday. Citing a slow holiday season and increasing expenses, the decision was made to close the restaurant. On a personal note, it disappoints me a lot. I was a big fan of the restaurant that took over the Carlos O’Kelly’s space a couple of years ago. They originally started focusing on small plates and put out some incredible dishes. They came out of the gates to a hot start and over the years slowed down. After partner changes, different chefs and menu alterations that included a focus away from some of the small plates, I’m not sure if that led to some magic dissipating over the years. It was one of my favorite restaurants around town and a place that made for a fantastic date night.Unfortunately, this is an incredibly tough time to operate a restaurant, and Doma was one of the places affected by it.
