Reports state the influencers chose not to wear life jackets as they felt these would interfere with their tanning and photos.
Police commissioner Marcos Alexandre Alfino confirmed this, adding: “Some didn’t want to put them on because they were taking selfies.” The yacht, designed for five, was carrying six passengers, leading to overcrowding concerns, per the Daily Mail.
The incident occurred on September 29, when a large wave hit the overloaded vessel, making it too heavy to stay afloat. The captain, reportedly under pressure to take all six influencers, attempted to save everyone as the boat began to sink.
Sadly, Beatriz was found first by Brazil’s Maritime Firefighters, her body drifting out to sea, while Aline’s body washed up days later along Itaquitanduva Beach.

Several survivors shared details of the terrifying ordeal. Vanessa Audrey da Silva, who managed to secure a life jacket, described the harrowing moments as she clung to rocks.
“There was a moment in the water when no one could see anyone. I was fighting for life,” she recalled, according to the Mirror.
Another survivor, Camila Alves de Carvalho, held onto a life jacket, struggling against strong waves. She stated: “We almost died. We didn’t know how to swim,” adding that she sustained injuries and swallowed a significant amount of water.

The survivors included Vanessa and Camila, along with three others: Daniel Goncalves Ferreira, Gabriela Santos Lima, and Natan Cardoso Soares da Silva, People reported.
They had all gathered for what was intended to be a luxury yacht party, cruising and drinking together on Brazil’s scenic coast. Later, they split into two groups to return to shore, and the ill-fated group met disaster when the overloaded boat was hit by the wave.
The deaths of Aline and Beatriz have prompted a formal investigation into whether negligence or recklessness was involved.
Commissioner Alfino explained: “All this is being determined very calmly to conclude if the fatalities were based on recklessness or negligence.” Authorities are examining the role of safety violations, as the vessel’s maximum capacity had been ignored, and no life jackets were worn by the two victims—one of whom, Aline, was unable to swim.
Aline, a mother of one, had shared photos on social media posing on the yacht in her final hours. Her last posts, showing her enjoying the party and Brazilian sunshine, stand as a haunting reminder of the dangers of prioritizing social media image over safety.
The investigation continues as authorities seek to determine the accountability of all involved.
